Where does your dog go?

When you go on holiday (abroad) where does your dog go? Mine go to kennels but when you think about it some people just put their dogs anywhere that is cheap. Our kennels is not cheap. I was just wondering what your opinions on kennels were and if your dog goes to them how do you know they are good ones? We took Ruby (when she was a pup) to her breeders kennels a few times and she always came back with kennel cough and had gone off her food so she stopped going there. We now take all three to one where they don't walk them but they have three massive fields which are fenced off where they can just run around with the other dogs. The owner also lets us put our dogs in the kennel so we see that they are comfy and happy.

if you are under 16 you may not be able to walk your dog!

I read something that states that if you are under 16 then you may not be able to walk your dog alone. I have been walking my dogs alone under that age, but only in my local area. I think young people can be trusted with dogs, but if they are on the dangerous dogs list then maybe an adult should walk with them for safety reasons. What do you think about children walking dogs? Here in the UK we have an organization for young people and their dogs which I am a member of called the Young Kennel Club. The age range is 6-24 years old.

I am back!

I haven't been on this blog in ages! That is because I forgot my account password. I have also been very busy with my three dogs Ruby a Labrador retriever, Otto a border terrier and archie a havanese. Archie is actually still only a pup at 9 months old. You probably haven't heard much about the havanese have you? Well here are some interesting factoids about them:

  • They are quite rare. Ever since my dog's litter was born there has only ever been one other litter in the uk.
  • They are long coated- they need to be brushed after almost every walk.
  • They originate from Havana in cuba and they are the national dog of cuba.
Hav's are very loyal and loving and are great for families however they are a little on the pricey side at £1000 per pup, I say it is worth it! For more about the havanese visit this link!: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Havanese

Winter!

Hi everyone! Its that time of the year again! The time when it is freezing cold! Loads of people think that you have a dog that needs to be cut or stripped etc. then you should leave its's hair to grow! Wrong. You should actually have it cute because then the dog can't get too wet. If it gets too wet then it can catch a cold and become ill very easily. Instead of having them have long hair, buy them a dog coat (Not one with sleeves or not a hoodie.) It needs to be a proper one though. This way they cant get wait! Simples!

Choosing a dog.

Ok so you have decided you want a dog but you just cant decide which one to get? Well worry no more because there are loads of people that can help you! You should start by selecting a few breeds that catch your eye! (remember that you should not choose a breed based on how it looks. If you have a family, choose a family orientated dog) If you do choose a dog based on looks, make sure it is trained well before it is grown up. So, back to choosing your perfect dog. Narrow you Favorite breeds down to two different dogs. Then look at both of them and choose your favorite. After that you should find a breeder. Make sure they are a good one and NEVER EVER buy a dog from a puppy mill because if you give the mills more money (From buying dogs) then they will be able to buy even more dogs! So do not buy from puppy mills!

Welcome to the dog world!

The dog world is a fun and sociable place. You can meet new friends too. Most of the time when you are walking alone people dont even bother to say hello. When you both have dogs then you will eventually get talking about them, especially if you have the same breed. Dogs also cause you to exercise more often, because they need to be walked. I think dogs are very sociable themselves which makes things easier as you don't want a grumpy pet!
